Optimi Completes Network Optimization Engagement for Leading European Operator
Industry Leader Deployed xACP and Network Planning Applications
Atlanta, GA, USA —March 28, 2007. Optimi, a global leader of customizable planning, optimization and monitoring solutions for new wireless technologies, announced the successful completion of a major network optimization engagement for a leading European wireless operator. During the project, Optimi demonstrated the in-field capability of its turn-key x-ACP (Automatic Cell Planning) solution to improve the operator's 3G network performance. The application was utilized for a UMTS cell plan design, which included a theoretical design phase and empirical validation phase.
For the theoretical design phase, Optimi engineers developed propagation models and implemented a cell-level network model that was submitted to x-ACP for cell plan design and optimization. In addition, Optimi utilized a 3G Monte Carlo simulator to estimate the performance impact of baseline and optimized network designs. The optimized network parameters, including antenna tilts and power settings, were implemented in the operator's UMTS network and verified empirically via drive test.
During the empirical design phase, the data matched the improvements predicted by the simulations and exceeded the operator's targets for optimized performance. The operator deployed x-ACP to develop accurate cell designs that maximized capital efficiency. The application enabled the operator to optimize its network physical parameters on a per-sector basis to improve 3G network performance.
